Bio

I grew up on a farm and still consider myself a farm girl. I have been a rural student, a rural English teacher, and I'm so excited that I get to start each day with students in the barn and spend the day teaching and guiding them as they study English and Humanities. I received my BA and MSEd from Purdue University (Boiler up!) and my PhD in Language and Literacy from the University of Texas at Austin (Hook 'em!). I'm currently in training to receive my secondary Montessori teaching credential through CMStep. I loved learning so much, I just kept wanting to always be in school! I also currently run the website Literacy In Place where I catalogue rural YA books and provide teaching resources. I host the Reading Rural YAL podcast where I talk about rural books and interview rural YA authors, and serve on the Whippoorwill Book Award for Rural YA Literature selection committee. I love OFMS, and am so excited to be here!
