"If you have an idea, then do it!"
These are the words of Auburn Farmer's Market youngest entrepreneur and Oak Farm Montessori School 4th grader, Gray Schoof. His business, Gray's Collectibles, began as an elementary school project and website. This summer he expanded his offerings of classic Pokemon cards, Hotwheels and gemstones to more organic fare: transplanted cactus in hand poured concrete pots.
Gray shared that the idea came from a desire to make money. He wanted to sell products in a way that was responsible. The Farmer's Market was intimidating at first; there were a lot of permits and paperwork, but Gray is glad he pushed through.
Even though he hasn't made it every week, Gray learned that talking to the customers, telling them about your product, and being adaptable has led to more sales.
What does he do with the money he has earned? "I save some, spend some, and then tithe." Sounds like a great plan Gray!
